Ratings for Week of July 28 - August 3
"America's
Got Talent" stays No.1 for second week; CBS is week's top network
(August
7, 2008) NBC's "America's Got Talent" posted its third week in a row at
No.1 on the top 25 of most popular network TV programs with black viewers.
It will be interesting to see how this love of competition programming
translates to NBC's broadcast of the Olympic game next week.

Ragan Henry,
pioneering media owner of radio and TV stations, dies at 74

(August 8, 2008) The son of a Kentucky tobacco sharecropper, Ragan A.
Henry went on to become a Harvard-educated lawyer, a pioneering media
mogul, an active participant in Philadelphia's civic life, and one of the
region's richest African Americans.
Still, he maintained a modest public profile, and when he died July 26 at
the age of 74 after a long illness, his passing went unannounced, just as
he wanted.
Mr. Henry, of Merion, also directed that there be no funeral, memorial
service or obituary after his death, the cause of which...

NAMIC announces
call for entries to its Fall 2008 Writers' Workshop
(July 24, 2008) The National Association for Multi-ethnicity in
Communications (NAMIC) is now accepting entries from writers of color
aspiring to participate in the NAMIC Fall 2008 Writers' Workshop. Held in
conjunction with the 22nd Annual NAMIC Conference, the two-day workshop
will take place September 15-16, 2008 from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the
New York Marriott Marquis Hotel in Manhattan.
A total of 15 writers of color will be selected to take part in the
intensive educational forum...
