Draft Obama movement
boasts first TV spot of the 2008 presidential campaign
(December
21, 2006) Illinois Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) may not yet be officially
running for president in 2008, but the first TV commercial connected
to the popular potential candidate is running.
The Draft Obama movement has produced the first television commercial of
the upcoming 2008 campaign season. It’s a 60-second spot urging the junior
senator to run for the White House and it began airing yesterday in New
Hampshire – where the first presidential primary will be held – and
Washington, D.C.
The commercial was produced pro bono by The Jackson Group, D.C.-based
political consultants, and uses the same theme as Obama’s best-selling
book, “The Audicity of Hope.” Kris Schultz of Draft Obama said that the ad
“has an extremely limited target audience. It’s aimed at Obama and only
Obama.” The ad is part of a strategy used successfully by former Gen.
Wesley Clark for his presidential run in 2004.
The commercial uses audio clips from a speech Obama delivered while
campaigning for Louisiana congressional candidate John Yarmuth. It focuses
on Obama’s core themes of decent health care, changes in foreign policy,
and replacing the politics of fear with the politics of hope. The spot is
expected to air through Christmas.

'Buying Power' report shows black consumers spending more on home life
As the American economy continues to move sluggishly,
African-American households are curtailing their spending in many
categories, including food, clothing and basic household items, while
investing more in home repair, home entertainment and consumer
electronics. Although they are trimming back, black consumers are still
spending more than their white counterparts on most of these products.
