New York’s WWRL to link with 11 Caribbean stations for Christmas
(December
12, 2005) On Christmas Eve (Saturday, December 24th), WWRL will go island
hopping, bringing greetings and Christmas sounds of the islands to the
listeners in the New York Metropolitan area. This series of live links
with radio stations throughout the Caribbean will bring family and friends
together and help spread holiday cheer among New York’s Caribbean
community.
Program Director Rennie Bishop says “This programming is a way to bring
our audience closer to their families in the Caribbean during the holiday
season. It continues our commitment to serve our community.”
The program will feature live half-hour links to key Caribbean countries
throughout the day on Christmas Eve. This live link with 11
Caribbean countries will allow listeners to call in to send
Christmas greetings home to family and friends and receive greetings from
those in their home country as well.
The links include stations in
Trinidad & Tobago,
Grenada, St. Vincent, Dominica, Antigua, Guyana, St. Lucia, Barbados, St.
Thomas, Jamaica, and St. Kitts.
WWRL, known as
New York’s
Urban Talk, provides programming on Saturdays directed at the large
Caribbean Market in the New York Tri-State area.
WWRL 1600AM, licensed to Access.1 Communications Corp. is a 24-hour
African American owned and operated radio station serving the New York
metro. Access.1 Communications Corp. also owns and operates 7 stations in
Shreveport, LA., 7 in Tyler-Longview-Marshall, Texas; 6 in stations in
Atlantic City, NJ, and an NBC TV affiliate(WMGM-TV 40) in
Atlantic City. The company also owns and operates SupeRadio; a
syndication company that distributes over forty programs broadcasting to
an estimated 100 million people combined, and is one of the two founding
partners of American Urban Radio Networks.

As the American economy continues to move sluggishly,
African-American households are curtailing their spending in many
categories, including food, clothing and basic household items, while
investing more in home repair, home entertainment and consumer
electronics. Although they are trimming back, black consumers are still
spending more than their white counterparts on most of these products.
