The Week

CW network
improves share with ‘Girlfriends,’ ‘All of Us’ on Mondays
(November
7, 2006) NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” captured its usual share of
audience to take the No.1 spot on the Top 25 list of network shows. The CW
network continues to get better ratings from its move of “Girlfriends” and
“All of Us” to Monday night and further away from the NFL. (It still
competed with ESPN’s Monday night football games). “Girlfriends” had a
12.5 rating and 1.6 black homes, which was good for third place on the
chart.
The overall network winner for the first week of November was CBS, which
claimed nine entries among the Top 25. ABC, NBC and the CW all tied for
second with five shows each.
The total number of black households watching the Top 25 shows, according
to Nielsen Media Research, was 33.5 million, just one percent less than
the previous week.

'Buying Power' report shows black consumers spending more on home life
As the American economy continues to move sluggishly,
African-American households are curtailing their spending in many
categories, including food, clothing and basic household items, while
investing more in home repair, home entertainment and consumer
electronics. Although they are trimming back, black consumers are still
spending more than their white counterparts on most of these products.
