The Week
of October 23 – 29
Football heads
up a big winning week for CBS with 10 shows on the Top 25
(October
31, 2006) During the last week of October, CBS improved its dominant
position on among the Top 25 favorites programs in black households.
According to Nielsen Media Research, CBS had ten shows on the list, far
more than any of its competitors. That was three shows better than the
lead it enjoyed in the previous week. Its NFL “Post Gun” show just cracked
the 2 million black households mark.
It was the CW network that could walk away with the most pride for its
performance in the pre-Halloween week. The fledgling network had its best
showing ever with four in the top ten. Overall it was second behind CBS
with five entries on the list. ABC and NBC tied for third place with four
shows each.
The total number of black homes watching the Top 25 in the closing week of
October was virtually even with the previous week’s total of 34 million.

'Buying Power' report shows black consumers spending more on home life
As the American economy continues to move sluggishly,
African-American households are curtailing their spending in many
categories, including food, clothing and basic household items, while
investing more in home repair, home entertainment and consumer
electronics. Although they are trimming back, black consumers are still
spending more than their white counterparts on most of these products.
