HUD names GA1 agency for home ownership ad campaign

(November 2, 2005) Global Advertising 1st (GA1), a Lanham, MD-based multicultural marketing solutions firm, has been awarded a contract with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The assignment is for an advertising campaign on the agency’s initiative to expand home ownership to those of low and moderate income, and to expand consumer education on the benefits of FHA loans.

The Federal Housing Administration (FHA) plays a critical role in financing for minority borrowers, first time home buyers, borrowers who have troubled credit history, and borrowers who have little money to put down on a home.

GA1 plans to target low and moderate income African Americans and Hispanics by advertising in two areas: the sale of homes owned by HUD/FHA and to expand consumer education for FHA insured loans. In keeping with the HUD’s reinvention efforts, the FHA has been ambitiously streamlining the home loan process. GA1’s creative team will work hand-in-hand with HUD to create, design, place and promote all media.

GA1 plans to create a mix of traditional and non-traditional media placement in order for HUD to reach its target audience. Derrick Hollie, President/CEO of GA1 explains, “When we learned the challenges that African Americans and Hispanics were facing with homeownership and FHA loans, it motivated GA1 to present the most creative, effective, and targeted campaign for our client. We look forward to working with HUD to expand consumer education on the benefits FHA offers.”

Media will be placed in HUD/FHA Real Estate Owned (REO) concentrated markets. The national campaign will debut in the following cities: Atlanta, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston Detroit, Chicago, Denver, Indianapolis, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Memphis, Brooklyn and Newark.

The campaign will include print and radio advertising as well as community-based promotional events. National print media publications include Ebony, Jet, People en Español and TVyNovelas as well as placement in select local newspapers.  Radio advertising will be placed across Radio One, Clear Channel and Spanish Broadcast System (SBS) stations. GA1 has also strategically placed HUD at targeted events such as MegaFest in Atlanta, the Indiana Black Expo in Indianapolis and other events yet to be announced.
