‘Monday Night Football’ scores; BET, USA tie for week’s top cable network
(October
31, 2007) How did the cable viewing of blacks and whites compare last
week? Both made ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” the week’s most watched
cable show. African-American households were 16 percent of the total
audience, and the game would not have won the night in overall measurement
without them.
Second place on the top 25 for black households was VH1’s “I Love New
York,” which 1.8 million total black viewers. Nearly twice that number
(3.3 million) of white viewers tuned in, but it was only No.12 on that
list. TBS’s “House of Pane” returned to the top-end of the top 25 by
taking the third through sixth spots.
BET repeated last week’s performance by placing seven shows on the chart,
but had to share top network honors with USA Network which had a like
number of winners. TBS and VH1 both claimed four shows in the top 25,
while ESPN, Disney and MTV rounded out the list with one program each.
The total number of black households watching the top 25 during the fourth
week of October, according to Nielsen Media Research, was 18.5 million, a
drop of five percent compared to the previous week.
