Clear Channel
returns WPHH/Hartford from Urban format back to Alternative From Radio Online (October 25, 2007) Clear Channel returns Rhythmic CHR WPHH-FM (Power
104.1)/Hartford to Alternative as "fm104one." Core artists include the
Clash, Smashing Pumpkins, 311, The Ramones, Beastie Boys, Sublime, Dave
Matthews, Foo Fighters, Incubus and Green Day, among others. The station
will air initially run jockless with plans to keep the commercial minutes
restricted to the fewest in Connecticut.
The station's new web site is meant to complement the "on-air experience
at 1041music.com with a major focus on social networking. The web site
will also let listeners hear new music and offer feedback. Local and
national bands will be webcast and video concerts will be offered.
"This is not going to be the lame old-school radio that everyone has grown
tired of," said Operations Manager Todd Thomas. "This station is about
music for adults 25-34... period."
He added, "This audience is extremely passionate about the music. A lot of
DJ talk and stations hyping themselves all the time is just not something
that people want to hear. The listeners are begging us (radio) to stop the
chatter and just play good music. That's where fm104one comes in. Radio
listeners deserve what they really want."
The 104.1 frequency was previously Alternative WMRQ-FM (Radio 104) during
the nineties before flipping to Urban in 2003. Go to Target Market News
