Cable Ratings for Week of Oct. 15 - 21
BET knocks out the usual suspects to take No.1; USA is week’s top network

(October 24, 2007) BET claimed victory for the week’s most watched program in black households, “The BET Hip-Hop Awards” pushed ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” to second. In a head-to-head on Wednesday night it beat out TBS’s “House of Payne.” Airing the “Hip-Hop Awards” three times for the week, and the growing popularity of “Sunday Best” and “Exalted” gave BET seven winners on the week’s top 25 list.

However, the network with the most shows for the week was USA. It had nine winners of the top 25 (seven of which were “Law & Order: SVU). Following BET was third place VH1 with three shows. ESPN and MTV both placed two shows, and Disney – uncharacteristically – had one.

The total number of households watching the top 25 cable shows during the third week of October, according to Nielsen Media Research, was 19.5 million, a nine percent increase over the previous week’s total.
