Len Burnett resigns
position at Vibe to return to Uptown as co-CEO (October
23, 2007) Len Burnett has announced his resignation as Vice President,
Group Publisher of Vibe Magazine, a position he has held since June 2005.
Burnett, who was one of the original founders of Vibe in 1993, returned in
June of 2005.
"Len has been part of the Vibe family since its founding with Quincy
Jones. He has been an important part of building Vibe into a mature media
company with its multiple touch points,” said Steve Aaron, CEO of VIBE
Media Group. “We will miss his passion and creativity, and on behalf of
the entire Vibe family, we wish him all the best success at Uptown,"
Burnett is returning to Uptown Magazine, a lifestyle quarterly targeted to
affluent African-Americans that he co-founded with Brett Wright in 2004.
As Co-CEO, Burnett will oversee sales, marketing and the continued growth
of Uptown’s integrated marketing strategy. The magazine recently signed a
national distribution deal with Kable News Distribution and has launched a
new web site, www.uptownlife.net.
"This
is a coming home for me, I am now able to focus my time and resources on
what I believe is an underserved audience and with a title that has
tremendous growth potential. We have created a unique advertising
platform for our clients to reach this affluent audience. I’m excited
about our future as we expand circulation, grow into additional local
markets, and provide advertisers a 360 degree experience leveraging the
magazine and our brand extensions", says Burnett.
Wright said Burnett’s return “will allow us to make good on our initial
strategy via the aggregation of content and the development of
intellectual properties that leverage the Uptown brand and deliver our
advertisers’ products and services directly to affluent consumers.”
In 2008, Uptown’s founders expect to launch several new properties
including new events and an expanded broadband presence which will have
social networking as well as many unique features for travel, blogging and
commerce.
