Earl Graves, Jr. is named to the board of Magazine Publishers of America

(October 20, 2005) Earl Graves, Jr. (Butch), President and COO of Black Enterprise magazine, has been named to the board of directors of The Magazine Publishers of America, it was announced at the association's annual conference last week in Puerto Rico.

Graves becomes the third African-American member of the MPA board, joining Edward Lewis, chairman and founder of Essence Communications, and Linda Johnson Rice, President and CEO of Johnson Publishing Co.

Butch joined Black Enterprise in 1988, after earning his M.B.A. from Harvard University. His first position at the company was as Vice-President of Advertising and Marketing. In 1991, he was promoted to Senior Vice President of Advertising and Marketing; and in 1995, he was named the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. He was appointed to his current position in 1998.

Also announced by the MPA was the appointment of
Jack Kliger, President & CEO, Hachette Filipacchi Media US, Inc., as Chairman of the board. In addition to Graves, two new members have been elected to the MPA Board: Scott Crystal, President, TV Guide Publishing Group, and Alvaro Saralegui, Vice Chairman, Latina Media Ventures, LLC.
