THE LATEST NEWS
'Vibe' and 'Ebony' push black magazines well ahead of industry's Sept. averages

(October 18, 2005) The month of September was a good one for the advertising coffers of Vibe and Ebony magazines, according to the latest figures released by the Publishers Information Bureau of the trade association, Magazine Publishers of America.

While all of the magazines had an average growth rate of 4.7 percent in ad revenue when compared to September of 2004, Vibe had posted a 36.9 percent for the period, Ebony reported a 19.7 percent increase. Jet also reported gains with a 11.8 percent increase. Collectively, the top five black magazines averaged increased advertising revenues of 16 percent.

Thus far for the year, all but one of the black titles is reporting an increase over 2004 in total earned ad revenues. The industry average for the first nine months, according to PIB, was a 7.9 percent increase. Black magazines were slightly ahead of that with a 9 percent growth rate over the same period last year.
