The Week of Sept. 25 – Oct. 1
For the third consecutive week it’s football and ‘The Flavor’ on top

(September 20, 2006) When it comes to the most popular cable shows, black households have been consistent on the top two. ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” has sustained its dominance at No.1 for three weeks in a row. As usually, it’s followed by the reality love match, “The Flavor of Love.”  Both shows were the only programs to have a million or more households.

HBO’s “The Wire” continued to improve its standing by capturing third place. The winners among the cable networks were USA and Disney, both of which posted five shows on the top 25. BET and VH1 each claimed four spots, and ESPN had two.

The total number of black households watching the top 25 during the last week of September was 15.3 million, a increase of  three percent over the previous week.

Latest 'Buying Power' report shows black consumers spending more on home life

As the American economy continues to move sluggishly, African-American households are curtailing their spending in many categories, including food, clothing and basic household items, while investing more in home repair, home entertainment and consumer electronics. Although they are trimming back, black consumers are still spending more than their white counterparts on most of these products.
