Kizart receives honor from International Black Broadcasters Association (Sept
28, 2005) Interep has announced that Sherman Kizart (left), SVP/Director
of Urban Radio for Interep, recently received the International Black
Broadcaster Association’s Leadership Award. The award was presented at the 5th Annual IBBA Convention held in Memphis earlier this month. Civil rights activist and comedian Dick Gregory was the keynote speaker for the awards dinner. Rob Neal, executive director of the IBBC, commented, “When we considered the candidates for this year’s leadership award, Sherman stood out as the obvious choice. His sincerity and commitment to the Urban broadcast community, coupled with his ability and work ethic, makes him a true leader. The IBBA is delighted to add Sherman to our roster of award recipients.” Kizart commented, “I am truly honored that IBBA presented me with this award. They are an outstanding organization and have done much to encourage and improve the opportunities for black broadcasters both in our own country and around the world. 11th Annual Edition Available 'Buying Power' report reveals surge by black households for consumer electronics Despite
tighter economic times, African-American households are significantly
increasing their expenditures on consumer electronics for the home,
according to the newest edition of The Buying Power of Black America
report. In many categories such as video games, televisions, CD players,
cable TV service and sound equipment, black households are spending more
on average than their white counterparts. According to the 103-page report, black households had $656 billion in earned income in 2003, an increase of 3.9% over the $631 earned in 2002.
