Football lovers
take on 'The Flavor of Love' and win -- but just by a nose
(September
20, 2006) Black households continued to show their love for NFL football
by making ESPN’s Monday night game the number one show on the top 25 cable
programs for second week of September. But VH1’s “Flavor of Love” came
close to a tie with the gridiron match-up. The reality series was just
51,000 homes short of taking the top, and captured third place with an
encore performance.
The overall network winner for the week was BET, which had five spots on
the top 25, lead by tenth place finisher, “Access Granted.” VH1 was next
with four placements, and USA and TNT had three each. The total number of
black households watching the top 25, according to Nielsen Media Research,
was 16.03 million.

'Buying Power' report shows black consumers spending more on home life
As the American economy continues to move sluggishly,
African-American households are curtailing their spending in many
categories, including food, clothing and basic household items, while
investing more in home repair, home entertainment and consumer
electronics. Although they are trimming back, black consumers are still
spending more than their white counterparts on most of these products.
