Multicultural work among new categories in Effie Award's call for entries

(September 19, 2012) Effie Worldwide have announced their call for entries for the 2013 North American Effie Awards. Effie Worldwide honors marketing ideas that work, and since 1968, winning an Effie Award has become a global symbol of achievement. New categories have been added to the competition, including a number of categories under the Health Effies umbrella, as well as the Multi-Demographic, Asian and the yearly topical category: Olympics Marketing. An entry fee discount will be offered this year as an incentive for new entrants or entrants who haven't entered the North American Effie Awards competition in the past three years (2010, 2011, 2012 competitions).

“Over the past 45 years, we've adapted categories for the Effie Awards and evolved our educational offerings through Effie Worldwide to reflect trends in business and culture.”

A new specialty Effie category focuses on effective marketing communications aimed at the Asian community (in the US or Canada), while the Multi-Demographic category seeks entries for a single brand idea that specifically targeted two or more audiences (Asian, African-American, Hispanic, LGBT, and/or General Market). Olympics Marketing is an Effie Award for cases that had a targeted marketing strategy surrounding the 2012 Summer Olympics.

The Health Effies, will be dedicated to the analysis and celebration of those creating the most effective marketing communications in the arena of OTC and Rx healthcare products and services. Categories under the Health Effies umbrella include Disease Awareness & Education, Healthcare Services, Healthcare Rx: Consumer/DTC, Healthcare Rx: Professional, Healthcare Rx: Devices and Healthcare: OTC.

Shopper Marketing, Brand Experience and the Media Effie awards are some of the most popular specialty awards in the competition returning this year. These categories, along with Business Challenges, Global, GoodWorks, and the Multi-cultural categories will be judged by experts from each area during specialty judging sessions. A complete list of Effie categories, ranging from Automotive to Beverages and Travel and Tourism, with many in between can be found on www.effie.org, along with details on entering, judging and learning more about the Effie Awards.

"Over the past 45 years, we've adapted categories for the Effie Awards and evolved our educational offerings through Effie Worldwide to reflect trends in business and culture," said Mary Lee Keane, President of Effie Worldwide. "In return, we all learn how be more effective marketers."

For new Effie entrants (those who haven't submitted work in the 2010, 2011 and 2012 competitions), a discount will be provided on all entries submitted until October 31, 2012. (To receive this discount, contact Steph Jones at sjones@effie.org with the subject line: NEW ENTRANT DISCOUNT). Entries in the Health Effies and Olympics Marketing can receive this discount until November 14, 2012. New entrants and those who may need advice on submitting a successful Effie entry can attend a webinar (scheduled weekly throughout September and the first week in October) or arrange for an on-site case presentation workshop (a deep dive into the entry process with an analysis of past Effie entries, spots are limited).

The on-time entry deadline for the North American and Shopper Marketing Effie 2013 competitions is October 9, 2012. Extended deadlines (with fees) are October 18, 2012 and a last chance extension deadline on October 31, 2012. The Global Effie competition follows a separate entry deadline and fee structure.

Finalists and winners for the 2013 Effie Awards competition will be factored into the Effie Effectiveness Index, which analyzes data from 40 worldwide Effie Award competitions and ranks the effectiveness of the world's agencies, companies and brands.

The Effie Awards are known by advertisers and agencies globally as the pre-eminent award in the industry, and recognize any and all forms of marketing communication that contribute to a brand's success. Since 1968, winning an Effie has become a global symbol of achievement. Today, Effie celebrates effectiveness worldwide with the Global Effie, the Euro Effie, the Middle East / North Africa Effie and more than 40 national Effie programs.
