Black Enterprise shows huge ad growth for August over the previous year (Sept.
19, 2005) The nation’s leading black magazines collectively outperformed
the industry averages in advertising growth for the month of August,
according to figures from the Publishers Information Bureau. The top five
black magazines posted an eight percent growth in revenues, while all
magazines had a one percent growth rate for their August issues. Black Enterprise led the growth in August advertising with a 50 percent increase in ad dollars over the previous year. Vibe and Ebony posted gains of 6.7 percent and 5.1 percent respectively. The year-to-date ad revenue figures show a gain by all black magazines except the weekly Jet. Combined, black magazines’ ad revenues for the first eight months of the year are seven percent above the same period in 2004. ![]() Go to Target Market News homepage |

tighter economic times, African-American households are significantly
increasing their expenditures on consumer electronics for the home,
according to the newest edition of The Buying Power of Black America
report. In many categories such as video games, televisions, CD players,
cable TV service and sound equipment, black households are spending more
on average than their white counterparts. According to the 103-page report, black households had $656 billion in earned income in 2003, an increase of 3.9% over the $631 earned in 2002.
