Black Cable TV Ratings for Week of September 5 - 11
Labor Day gives cable viewing a boost as Fall broadcast TV pulls viewers

(September 15, 2011) Just like the broadcast networks, cable channels benefited from last week's Labor Day Monday viewing shifts. About a third of the Top 25 cable shows aired on the holiday, which meant that they competed head-to-head with an onslaught of football.

The holiday made for unusual winners among the networks. Disney vaulted to most watched status, with five million mostly young out of school viewers tuning in to five of its charted shows. VH1 was second, capturing 4.7 million for four programs. TBS was a third place finisher with 3.6 million for three shows.

Cable still managed to increase its total Top 25 black audience over the previous week by 10 percent to 26.2 million, according to Nielsen data.
