Anne Sempowski Ward
named president, COO of JPC’s Fashion Fair Cosmetics (September
10, 2007) After an extensive national search, Anne Sempowski Ward, former
assistant vice president of African-American Marketing for the Coca-Cola
Company, has been appointed President and Chief Operating Officer of
Fashion Fair Cosmetics—the world’s largest cosmetic and skin care company
for women of color. Additionally, Senior Vice-President J. Lance Clarke
has been named Senior Vice-President and Director of Global Sales and will
oversee the national and international sales for the cosmetics.
In Ward’s newly created role that will be effective October 1, she will
lead all aspects of sales, product development, supply chain and
marketing. She will also create and oversee all business development
strategies and implement diversified initiatives to strengthen brand
equity.
“Anne has more than 15 years of brand management and leadership
experience, which will help to cultivate our global growth strategy
initiatives,” said Linda Johnson Rice, President and CEO of Johnson
Publishing Company. “With her zealous understanding of the ever-changing
marketplace, she is well-positioned to meet the challenge to help
revolutionize Fashion Fair Cosmetics.”
As former assistant vice president of African-American Marketing for the
Coca-Cola Company, Ward was responsible for implementing all business
development strategies and programs to build market share with
African-American consumers across all major Coca-Cola brands, including
Coke, Sprite, Powerade, Dasani and Minute Maid. Prior to this role, Ward
spent more than a decade at Procter & Gamble, where she led several brands
and categories, including Pampers, Always, Tampax and hair care.
She is perhaps best known for launching significant African-American
marketing strategies and programs within both Fortune 500 companies. Ward
also created the “Total You” beauty platform across P&G’s largest beauty
brands.
The Detroit native received her Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical
Engineering and Materials Science from Duke University. She also earned a
Global MBA degree from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.
An active member of the civic and business communities, Ward has received
numerous acknowledgements for her work. She has been recognized as a YMCA
Black Achiever, YWCA Rising Star, and a “Top Black Executive in a Major
Corporation” and “Woman at the Top” by EBONY magazine. She was also the
youngest and first African-American trustee on the P&G Fund, the entity
responsible for all of P&G’s philanthropic giving.
Fashion Fair Cosmetics was introduced in September 1973 at Marshall
Field’s in Chicago and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Johnson Publishing
Company, Inc. where Linda Johnson Rice is President and CEO. Fashion Fair
can be found in nearly 2,000 fine stores in the U.S., U.K., Canada,
Africa, the Caribbean, France and other countries around the world.
Fashion Fair has also established offices in London and can be found in
nearly 100 fine stores there as well. Fashion Fair Cosmetics was founded
by the late entrepreneur John H. Johnson.
