The Week of August 28 – September 3
Fox stays No. 1 on the top 25 for third week thanks to 'Celebrity Duets'

(September 8, 2006) The voyeuristic appeal of watching the well-known trying to carry a tune pushed Fox’s “Celebrity Duets” to the top spot on the 25 most popular shows in black households. For the third consecutive week, the network was No. 1, and it was also the overall winner among networks on the list with eight shows.

During the last week before Labor Day, when the summer comes to an unofficial end, UPN also had a good showing with seven programs on the list. UPN is going strong into its final days before passing the baton to the CW network. It had seven shows on the chart. CBS claimed five, NBC had four and ABC posted one.

Signs of viewers coming back from the summer were reflected in seven shows attracting at least one million households. The overall number of households watching the top 25 shows, according to Nielsen Media Research, was 23 million, virtually the same as the previous week.

Latest 'Buying Power' report shows black consumers spending more on home life

As the American economy continues to move sluggishly, African-American households are curtailing their spending in many categories, including food, clothing and basic household items, while investing more in home repair, home entertainment and consumer electronics. Although they are trimming back, black consumers are still spending more than their white counterparts on most of these products.
