Michelle Gadsden-Williams named global head of diversity for Novartis

(August 23, 2006) – Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation (NPC) has named Michelle Gadsden-Williams global head of Diversity and Inclusion beginning this month.  Having been with Novartis for four years, she has demonstrated her commitment to the advancement of the Diversity and Inclusion efforts at NPC.  Recently ranked amongst Network Journal Magazine’s “40 Top Business and Professional Leaders Under Forty”, Gadsden-Williams had established herself as a successful woman within a growing company.

Gadsden-Williams is the first African American in Novartis’ history to serve in her capacity, where she currently provides strategic direction and leadership in developing an inclusive environment by integrating diversity practices into all aspects of the business.  “Our commitment to our employees continues to be a top priority.  It’s no coincidence that the differences we bring to the table also help us bring the best products to our diverse customer market,” states Gadsden-Williams.  “With this kind of corporate attitude in play, it’s only a matter of time before Novartis reaches its goal to become the top company, where every individual can realize their full potential and be successful.”

Gadsden-Williams earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing and Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from Kean College in New Jersey.  She is presently working to complete her Master of Science degree in Organizational Dynamics from the University of Pennsylvania.

Currently employing approximately 81,400 people in over 140 countries around the world, Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation researches, develops, manufacturers and markets leading innovative prescription drugs used to treat a number of diseases and conditions, including central nervous system disorders, organ transplantation, cardiovascular diseases, dermatological diseases, respiratory disorders, cancer and arthritis.

Latest 'Buying Power' report shows black consumers spending more on home life

As the American economy continues to move sluggishly, African-American households are curtailing their spending in many categories, including food, clothing and basic household items, while investing more in home repair, home entertainment and consumer electronics. Although they are trimming back, black consumers are still spending more than their white counterparts on most of these products.
