Burrell Communications wins American Advertising Federation Mosaic Award

(August 28, 2006) On Friday, August 17, the American Advertising Federation (AAF) announced that Burrell Communications won its prestigious Mosaic Agency of the Year for the Verizon "realize" campaign. The Mosaic Awards recognize companies that are at the leading edge of multicultural advertising.

"We [Burrell] are ecstatic to have been named Agency of the Year by the AAF," said McGhee Williams Osse, Co-CEO of Burrell Communications. "We feel strongly that 'realize,' which we developed in conjunction with Verizon, is an extremely powerful campaign that speaks in a meaningful, insightful way to Verizon's African American customers. Being recognized as the Agency of the Year further validates that belief and helps inspire Burrell to continue producing campaigns that deliver results by moving the needle."

The Agency of the Year Award is new, according to Mary Hilton, vice president, public affairs for the AAF. "The 'realize' campaign met so many of the Mosaic Award criteria that it deserved an extraordinary honor," Hilton said.

"The Mosaic and Diversity Achievement Awards recognize the most advanced, enlightened and forward-thinking individuals and corporations that have seized upon multicultural marketing to embolden their business' fortunes," added Wally Snyder, AAF president & CEO. "This year's honorees are prime examples of those who have embraced multicultural marketing techniques, best practices and diversity initiatives to improve the bottom line and stay relevant in today's competitive corporate environment."

Burrell will receive its award during Diversity/Mosaic Day on Wednesday, September 27, at the New York Athletic Club.

Latest 'Buying Power' report shows black consumers spending more on home life

As the American economy continues to move sluggishly, African-American households are curtailing their spending in many categories, including food, clothing and basic household items, while investing more in home repair, home entertainment and consumer electronics. Although they are trimming back, black consumers are still spending more than their white counterparts on most of these products.
