Black TV Ratings for Week of August 13 - 19
Pre-season football and food shows dominate the last days of summer TV viewing

(August 23, 2012) With the Olympics gone, and TV viewers' appetite for sports whetted, NBC and Fox benefited from the start of the NFL pre-season. Football was the only programming to attract at least a million Black viewers during the third week of August.

And speaking of appetites, Fox may have found a way to lure more Black viewers to the network. Its food and cooking shows, "Hell's Kitchen," "Masterchef" and "Hotel Hell" all played as summer alternatives and fall previews. Chef Gordon Ramsey's personality may prove to be as popular as the attitude and nastiness found on "Love and Hip Hop Atlanta." The three shows attracted just above three million Black viewers.

Fox was the most watched TV network of the week, with 5.4 million viewers across seven shows. CBS was second with five million for seven shows. NBC took third claiming 3.9 million with five programs.

The total number of viewers for the Top 25 TV shows, according to Nielsen, was down 34 percent following the Olympics to 19.9 million.
