Black TV Ratings for Week of August 6 -12
Olympics attract a record 46.6 million Black viewers for telecasts of games

(August 16, 2012) From the opening ceremony to the final spectacle of the 30th Olympiad, Black viewers were a significant part of NBC's ratings success. There was significantly more interest in the games than four years ago, and Black households were different in their viewing patterns than whites. For example, the most-watched night for Blacks was Wednesday, which ranked third with general audiences. Overall, 46.6 million Black viewers tuned in all the Olympic broadcasts over the past two weeks.

NBC attracted 19.6 million for its eight Olympic programs. The second most watched network was CBS with 4.5 million across eight shows. ABC claimed 3.1 million for five shows.

The total number of Black viewers for the Top 25 shows, according to Nielsen, was 30.3 million, or two percent less than the previous week.
