EBONY special issue features celebrity fathers with their sons in hoodies on cover

(August 8, 2013) The editors of Ebony Magazine have devoted their September 2013 issue to comprehensive coverage of the aftermath of the Trayvon Martin murder trial, including the creation of different and dramatic covers. The editors say its underscores the magazine's commitment to highlight what some are calling the biggest civil rights case of the century.

Three covers feature a Black male celebrities with their sons wearing a hoodie. One shows filmmaker Spike Lee and his son Jackson, another features actor Boris Kodjoe and his son Nicolas, and another spotlights NBA star Dwyane Wade with his two sons Zaire and Zion. The fourth cover features Trayvon Martin's family, parents Sabrina Fulton and Tracy Martin; and older brother, Jahvaris Fulton.

"African-Americans across the country clenched their hearts at the news of Zimmerman's acquittal. Our president--a man who could have been Trayvon's father--spoke plainly about the pain of racial profiling and the injustices faced by Black males in this country," the editors state on the magazine's Website. "We have talked to the Martin family, we have talked to legal experts and we have talked to you, Black America. We stand committed to sharing the Black perspective with the world."
