Toyota again partners with National Urban League as title sponsor of annual conference

(August 4, 2015) Toyota reclaimed its role as title sponsor of the National Urban League recent 105th Annual Conference, the nation's largest historic civil rights and urban advocacy organization. The conference took place from July 29 - August 1, 2015 at the Broward Convention Center in Ft. Lauderdale.

Toyota's long-standing relationship with National Urban League began more than 20 years ago and 2015 marks the company's 21st anniversary as a conference sponsor. Toyota currently serves on the organization's national and local boards, and works with its affiliates nationwide to launch significant education, job training and scholarship programs for young people.

During four power-packed days, NUL attendees were educated about: driver safety precautions using cutting-edge technology and proper child passenger safety practices seat belt restraints; how to adopt greener habits through vehicle, beauty and household decisions; and how to brand yourself to secure a job. The company also shared its commitment of education, the environment and safety in support of NUL's conference theme, "Save our Cities: Education, Jobs & Justice."

"For the last two decades, Toyota has been a proud sponsor and a loyal partner to the National Urban League.  We believe in their mission," said Jim Colon, vice president, African American Business Strategy, Toyota Motor Sales USA, Inc. "Being part of the conference provides us with a great opportunity to connect with consumers and establish partnerships with the African-American and Hispanic communities we serve." 

As part of its presence at NUL, Toyota honored New York Times best-selling author and award-winning pioneer in human rights and clean energy, Van Jones at a private reception. In addition, Jones was workshop speaker on Thursday, July 30, which Toyota sponsored at the conference.
