New York’s WWRL is
new flagship station for Air America network
(August 2, 2006) Air America, the liberal talk network best known for its
commentator Al Franken, is moving its flagship operation from one New York
City, black-owned radio station to another New York City black-owned radio
station.
Starting September 1, WWRL-AM will be the new home for the two-year old
network. Since it went on the air, Air America’s operations were based at
WLIB, the black talk station owned by Inner City Broadcasting Corp. WWRL,
which is owned by Access.1 Communications, currently features an urban
talk format with commentators such as Armstrong Williams and Larry Elder.
“We are excited about our new affiliation and the platform this move will
establish for Air America in the years ahead,” said Jim Wiggett, acting
CEO of Air America, which airs on more than 80 stations plus XM Satellite
Radio.
WLIB is reported to be making plans for a new progressive talk line-up
that will be more locally oriented.
Access.1 Communications Corp. also owns and operates 7 stations in
Shreveport, LA., 7 in Tyler-Longview-Marshall, Texas; 6 in stations in
Atlantic City, NJ, and an NBC TV affiliate(WMGM-TV 40) in Atlantic City.
The company also owns and operates SupeRadio; a syndication company that
distributes over forty programs broadcasting to an estimated 100 million
people combined, and is one of the two founding partners of American Urban
Radio Networks.

'Buying Power' report shows black consumers spending more on home life
As the American economy continues to move sluggishly,
African-American households are curtailing their spending in many
categories, including food, clothing and basic household items, while
investing more in home repair, home entertainment and consumer
electronics. Although they are trimming back, black consumers are still
spending more than their white counterparts on most of these products.
