Black Cable TV Ratings for Week  July 22 - 29
BET grows its lead against VH1 on Top 25 cable shows; OWN network keeps rising

(August 1, 2013) In the competition between BET's "The Game" and VH1's "Love and Hip Hop" the latter has regularly been the most watched cable program in black households. But BET has been closing the gap as it continues to dominate in the number of viewers it attract to it leading shows.

More and more, black women are driving ratings success in cable TV, as demonstrated by OWN's "The Haves and the Have Nots" finishing in the top five for the first time.

BET again was the most watched cable network for the last week of July. It claimed 10.9 million viewers for its nine shows on the Top 25. VH1 attracted more viewers, but again had to settle for second place with 8.2 million for four show. And for the first time, the OWN network reached the third most watched network on the chart with 4.9 million for five of its shows.

The total number of viewers for the Top 25 cable shows in black homes, according to Nielsen data, was down three percent from the previous week to 30 million.
