Black TV Ratings for Week of July 23 - 29
Black viewers watching Summer Olympics with same high interest as 2008 games

(July 31, 2012) The interest by Black viewers in this year's Summer Olympic games is as high as it was in 2008. With three million tuning in for the opening ceremony, Black households were 13 percent of the total U.S. audience.

With the exception of the USA basketball team, NBC has done little to promote African-American Olympians like gold medalist gymnast Gabrielle Douglas (above). Nonetheless, it appears that Black viewers will be right there cheering for U.S. competitors, particularly when the later broadcasts feature track and field events and the basketball finals.

NBC was the week's top TV network, with 10.2 million watching six of its shows on the Top 25 chart. CBS followed with 5.7 million across nine shows. Fox had 4.3 million for five programs, and ABC claimed 3.3 million with five shows.
