Black TV Ratings for Week of July 15 - 21
Top 25 TV shows find it hard to compete with cable for the attention of black viewers

(July 23, 2013) With the exception of Under The Dome (CBS) and America's Got Talent (NBC), network TV shows, even other summer replacements, are having a hard time competing for black households. This is a significant point for broadcasters because it means the difference between delivering audience guarantees to advertisers -- or not.

The Top 25 TV shows have only half the viewership of cable's best. Only two TV shows at least a million viewers during the third week of July. Fourteen cable shows topped one million in the same week.

CBS again had 11 shows on the chart, with a total of 8.1 million viewers. ABC posted six shows and 3.9 million viewers. NBC virtually tied with ABC, also carrying 3.9 million watchers across five shows.

The total number of viewers for the Top 25 shows climbed 11 percent over the previous week to 18.2 million, according to Nielsen.
