Black Cable TV Ratings for Week of July 4 - 10
BET finds a summer winner as return of 'Sunday Best' takes top spots

(July 15, 2011) While most of the summer's cable viewing is dominated by young viewers in black households, there is still programming that delivered by appealing to adults. BET had a winner in the first week of July with the return of "Sunday Best,"  which captured the two top spots on the chart.

TBS was the week's most watched network in black homes, with 6.9 million watching seven of its top shows. Disney just barely missed first place with 6.7 million, also across even shows. BET claimed third, posting 6.4 million for five programs.

Nielsen recorded a total audience for the Top 25 most popular shows with black households at 26 million -- five percent above the previous week's total.

New "Buying Power" report: Black consumers spend as economy grows
Details $507 billion in expenditures

African-American consumers are cautiously increasing their spending in some key product categories, even as they continue to make adjustments in a slowly growing economy. The finding comes from the 16th annual edition of "The Buying Power of Black America" report published by Target Market News..

In 2009, black households spent an estimated $507 billion in 27 product and services categories. That's an increase of 16.6% over the $435 billion spent in 2008. African-Americans" total earned income for 2009 is estimated at $836 billion...
