TV One’s theatrical
reality competition series set to debut July 22nd (July
13, 2007) TV One and award-winning playwright David E. Talbert have teamed
up to bring viewers the ultimate backstage pass to urban theater and the
real drama that never makes it to the stage with the premiere of the new,
theatrical reality competition series, “David E. Talbert Presents:
StageBlack,” airing Sunday, July 22 from 10-11 PM ET.
The original series opens the curtains to the backstage antics,
frustrations and triumphs that take place during the real-life, multi-city
road tour of Talbert’s latest play, “Love in the Nick of Tyme”. This
record breaking play stars film star, Morris Chestnut, R&B recording
artist Avant, American Idol finalist, Trenyce, and features all-new songs
by Vivian Green. As the series unfolds, ten contestants – five men and
five women selected from regional auditions – compete during the tour for
the chance at a role in "Love in the Nick of Tyme" The winners, one man
and one woman, will also win featured roles in an upcoming David E.
Talbert production and be a part of its national tour, where they will
perform on some of the biggest stages in the country.
Once the contestants are chosen, they must learn to work and live
together. Guiding them through this process is Freez, Luv, the shows
den-father, who dishes out equal doses of encouragement, discipline and
tough love.
In this business of show business, however, it's not all fun and games.
“David E. Talbert Presents: StageBlack” gives a sneak peak into the wild
and wacky behind-the-scenes world of what happens off -stage as these ten
hopefuls – ten total strangers – sing, act, scratch and claw their way to
a once-in-a-lifetime chance to make their performing dreams come true on,
not just any stage, but the Black Stage!
One or two contestants will be eliminated each week, based on competitions
in key on and off-stage aspects of the theater business, such as singing,
acting, hair and makeup, wardrobe, stage management, grassroots marketing
and merchandising. Over the course of eight hour-long episodes the
contestants each week will be evaluated by a star-studded panel of judges
that includes Talbert himself, actor/producer Blair Underwood, Avant,
Elise Neal, Deborah Cox and more.
The series will re-air Sunday nights at 1 AM, Fridays at 10 AM, Thursdays
at 10 PM and Saturday nights at 11 PM (all times ET).
”David E. Talbert Presents: StageBlack” is produced for TV One by Edmonds
Entertainment in conjunction with David E. Talbert. The series was
co-created by Lyn Talbert. Executive producers of the series are David E.
Talbert, Morris Chestnut, Blair Underwood, Tracey Edmonds and Michael
McQuarn.
