Bounce TV adds the Detroit market with Scripps/WXYZ-TV agreement
(July 16, 2012) Bounce TV, continuing its rapid growth around the country, today announced that WXYZ-TV in Detroit will add the first-ever over-the-air broadcast television network for African Americans. This marks Bounce TV's first agreement with the E.W. Scripps Television Station Group, owners of WXYZ-TV. WXYZ-TV, one of the leading ABC affiliates in the U.S. and Detroit's #1 rated television station, serves the nine-county Detroit market area reaching more than 1.9 million homes each week. The addition of WXYZ-TV drives Bounce TV past 75% penetration of African American television homes and to nearly 55% of the total U.S. "By creating room on their digital spectrum for Bounce TV, WXYZ-TV clearly sees the enormous value of Bounce TV as a network that can make a difference locally. It is our privilege to be in business with E.W. Scripps and we welcome them to our growing family of Bounce TV affiliates," commented Jeffrey Wolf, Bounce TV Executive Vice President of Distribution in making the announcement. "We are thrilled that Bounce TV will be seen on such a strong station as WXYZ in such a critical market as Detroit." "Bounce TV is a very meaningful programming option for our digital spectrum and an ideal way to serve the 390,000 African-American Households throughout Southeast Michigan. We are delighted to be their exclusive home in Detroit," said Ed Fernandez, E.W. Scripps Divisional General Manager and WXYZ-TV Vice President and General Manager. Bounce TV airs twenty four hours a day, seven days a week on the digital signals of local television stations. The network targets African Americans primarily between the ages of 25-54 with a programming mix of theatrical motion pictures, live sports, documentaries, specials, inspirational faith-based programs, off-net series and now original series. Live sports and events are part of the Bounce TV schedule, including both football and basketball games from the nation's largest African American athletic conference, the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA). Bounce TV is majority African American-owned and Martin Luther King III and Ambassador Andrew Young are among the Founding Group and Board of Directors.
