African TV Network
adds Comcast outlets in Baltimore and Washington
(July
7, 2006) As part of its plan to expand the availability of TV programs
produced in Africa, US-based African TV Network has announced plans to
lease Comcast cable channels in the Baltimore and Washington DC areas.
“Starting July 31, audiences will be able to see African TV Network
programming on Comcast Ch. 81 in Baltimore County, Ch. 79 in Baltimore
City, and Ch. 77 in Washington DC," said, the network’s founder Clement
Afforo.
The Network offers a wide selection of English-language television
programs created in Africa, ranging from news, and current affairs, to
sports coverage, to Africa's most popular soaps and TV series.
"We've had great success showing dramatic programs that are popular in
Africa, such as "Games People Play," "Sun City," and the hit comedy "Taxi
Driver," Afforo said.
The African TV Network appeals mainly to a large, diverse audience of
African immigrants living in the United States. Many members of the
African-American and Caribbean communities also tune into the Network's
programming.
"We found that while networks frequently cover events from Africa, they
almost exclusively focus on war and famine. African culture is far more
diverse than that. We're committed to bringing the quality entertainment,
drama, and comedy that African TV programming offers. With us, you get a
much more rounded view of what Africa is all about." Afforo pointed out.
The ad supported network offers 30-second, 60-second, and sponsorship
packages. For more information on programs and advertising, contact the
African TV Network at 443-319-5481 or visit
www.africantvnetwork.com.
Rates are kept reasonable so local Baltimore and Washington DC area
businesses can easily afford to reach the Network's large and active
audiences.

'Buying Power' report shows black consumers spending more on home life
As the American economy continues to move sluggishly,
African-American households are curtailing their spending in many
categories, including food, clothing and basic household items, while
investing more in home repair, home entertainment and consumer
electronics. Although they are trimming back, black consumers are still
spending more than their white counterparts on most of these products.
