First recipients of the MAAX Awards to be honored in Chicago tomorrow

Honorees for the first annual MAAX Awards will be saluted tomorrow,  July 6, 2006 at an awards dinner during the Seventh Annual Black Consumer Research and Advertising Summit. The event, hosted by Target Market News at the Chicago Wyndham Hotel, is the nation’s largest annual gathering of African-American marketing, media and research professionals.

The 2006 recipients are:

Advertising Executive of the Year:
Renetta McCann, CEO, The Americas, Starcom Mediavest Group

Marketing Executive of the Year:
Jerri DeVard, Senior VP Marketing & Brand Management, Verizon

Media Executive of the Year: 
Sydney Small, Chairman/CEO, Access.1 Communications

Research Executive of the Year:
Ronald Franklin, President of NSights Worlwide LLC, and Executive Vice President - Director of Research, GlobalHue

Lifetime Achievement Award:  
Thomas Burrell, Founder & Chairman Emeritus, Burrell Communications Group

Latest 'Buying Power' report shows black consumers spending more on home life

As the American economy continues to move sluggishly, African-American households are curtailing their spending in many categories, including food, clothing and basic household items, while investing more in home repair, home entertainment and consumer electronics. Although they are trimming back, black consumers are still spending more than their white counterparts on most of these products.
