UniWorld Group wins
Radio Mercury Award for urban Burger King spot (June
20, 2007) UniWorld Group, Inc., the nation’s longest-standing full-service
multicultural agency, was awarded its first Radio Mercury Award for its
Burger King® Urban radio spot entitled, “Beef: Angus Cheesy Bacon.”
The Radio Mercury Awards recognizes individuals and their employers who
create and produce memorable, successful radio commercials and public
service announcements. The winning spot uses a Hip-Hop mix tape thematic
to tell the story of the Angus Cheesy Bacon Burger’s tasty competitive
edge. The spot, which features the rhyming skills of rap notables DJ
Kayslay (a.k.a. “The Drama King”) and Jody Breeze of Boyz N Da Hood,
leverages the iconic Burger King® brand “HAVE IT YOUR WAY®” positioning.
“It is truly a pleasure to be recognized by the industry, particularly for
a client such as Burger King Corporation, which has been a UniWorld client
for nearly 20 years,” said Rebecca Williams, Chief Creative Officer.
The edgy spot, which re-introduced, the Angus Cheesy Bacon Burger, aired
nationally Feb. 6, 2006.
“The Radio Mercury Award is one of the most respected awards for radio,”
said the spot’s copywriter Devin Heatley. “This recognition is such an
honor.” In addition to a trophy, Heatley’s award included a cash prize of
$5,000.
One of the largest African-American-owned full-service multicultural
marketing agency in the U.S., the UniWorld Group’s client roster includes
Burger King, Ford Motor Company and The Home Depot, to name a few.
Founded in 1969 by advertising icon Byron Lewis, UniWorld goes beyond
traditional advertising to connect the soul of the brand to the soul of
the consumer. The agency is 51% owned by Mr. Lewis and 49% owned by the
WPP Group, the world’s second largest media and communications services
conglomerate.
The Radio-Mercury Awards were
established in 1992 to encourage and reward the development of effective
and creative Radio commercials. Approximately 16,000 commercials have
competed for over $2.8 million in prizes. The Radio Creative
Fund (RCF), a non-profit corporation funded by the Radio industry, governs
the Radio-Mercury Awards.
