Black TV Ratings for Week of June 11 - 17
The NBA Finals are highest-rated games with Black viewers in nearly a decade

(June 19, 2012) The NBA Finals have posted their best Nielsen ratings since 2003, with the first three games between the Miami Heat and Oklahoma City Thunder averaging more than 16.5 million total audience. Black viewers, who are just 13.4 percent of the TV households, made up 30 percent of those watching each game. Most significantly, the average number of Black viewers has doubled since the last round of the playoffs to 5.8 million.

With the NBA Finals, ABC took the week's most watched network title, with 26.1 million for 10 mostly basketball-related broadcasts. CBS was second with 4.7 million across seven shows. Fox claimed 3.6 million for four of its shows on the chart.

The total number of viewers for the Top 25 most popular shows in Black homes, according to Nielsen, was 37.7 million. That's a 90 percent increase -- thanks to the NBA -- over the previous week's total.
