The Week of June 11 - 17 NBA Finals are no repeat hit for ABC in
primetime; CBS is big network winner
(June
20, 2007) The San Antonio Spurs' sweep over the Cleveland Cavaliers capped
off a ratings letdown for ABC with some of the lowest numbers for an NBA
Finals series in years. The 6.2 rating and 11 share was 27 percent lower
than last year’s Miami and Dallas contest, which at its peak attracted
more than three million black households.
The series still finished in the first and second spots for the week’s top
25 shows with African-Americans. Four of ABC’s five chart makers were NBA
programming, making it the second most watched network. The top network
honor went to CBS which had a record setting 11 shows on the top 25. It
was followed by Fox’s four, CW’s three and NBC’s two entries.
The total number of black households watching the top 25 in the second
week of June, according to Nielsen, was 24.5 million. That’s a 3.4 percent
decline from the previous week’s total.
