Cafe Mocha and WBLS salute Women of Color during Black Music Month celebration

(June 18, 2014) The Cafe Mocha Show affectionately known as 'radio from a women's perspective' that airs weekends on WBLS-FM is celebrating its third year of honoring dynamic women for their contributions within the communities they serve with SALUTE HER: Superwomen Making a Difference Awards Empowerment Day at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center on June 21st.

Hosted by Cafe Mocha celebrity host actress Nicole Ari Parker and co-host Angelique Perrin, the daylong celebration will bring together Black and Latino women in the tri-state area. The day's experience will include Salute Her: Superwomen Making a Difference Awards Brunch, Beauty Inside and Out Gentle Treatment Style Lounge, Mocha Mavens network exchange sponsored by Madam Noire and a stirring tribute by American Idol winner Ruben Studdard.

The much anticipated SALUTE HER: Superwomen Making a Difference Awards celebration will recognize a diverse group of women who share a common commitment to make a positive contribution that strengthen the multicultural community. This year's honorees include: entertainer Gloria Gaynor, Sister2Sister magazine publisher Jamie Foster-Brown, Real Housewives of Atlanta star and model Cynthia Bailey, community activist Evelyn Mejil, entertainment publicist Simone Smalls, author & daughter of Malcolm X Ilyasah Shabazz, author and relationship expert Demetria Lucas, television host/journalist Lola Ogunnaike and HBCU broadcast pioneer D.Cherie Lofton.

Cafe Mocha creator and executive producer Sheila Eldridge says, "Our 'Salute Her' celebrations are extraordinary because we bring cultures together to network and recognize incredible black and brown women who are making a real difference in their communities. Our hope is that our honorees' stories will inspire our attendees to continue our mission and pay it forward! "

Kimberly Hairston, Chief Marketing Officer of DRMJPC Brands notes that "Gentle Treatment is a heritage brand that has deep roots in our community. As the platinum sponsor for the Salute Her Awards, we are continuing the legacy of empowering women of color through beauty. It is an honor to be a part of this powerful initiative."
