WWE replaces NBA in top cable viewing as final games go to ABC
(June
15, 2006) With the NBA basketball moving to the ABC network for the
Finals, the most watched cable programming in black households is now
wrestling. USA network’s “WWE Entertainment” replaced the NBA in
dominating the top of the charts for the 25 most popular shows during the
second week of June, taking first second and third.
The overall winner in black household cable viewing was BET, which had
nine shows on the top 25. The Disney Channel claimed eight winners. Adult
Swim’s “Futurama” continued to advance, capturing the ninth spot last
week.
The loss of basketball's popularity meant that the overall number of black
homes watching the top 25 shows had a 30 percent decline to 14.03 million
from 20 million the previous week.

'Buying Power' report shows black consumers spending more on home life
As the American economy continues to move sluggishly,
African-American households are curtailing their spending in many
categories, including food, clothing and basic household items, while
investing more in home repair, home entertainment and consumer
electronics. Although they are trimming back, black consumers are still
spending more than their white counterparts on most of these products.
