Black TV Ratings for Week of May 23 - June 6
NBA Finals return ABC to dominance among black TV viewers

(June 8, 2011) ABC was rewarded for being able to hold on to its black audience following the NBA's Eastern and Western Conference finals. As the Miami Heat and the Dallas Mavericks jumped up for the NBA Finals, black viewers were watching in numbers that matched last year's record-setting ratings. The first three games of the series each had at least five million black fans tuning in.

In addition to turning the pre-game shows into ratings winners, ABC also used the games to successfully boost black audience numbers for "Jimmy Kimmel Live" by creating a prime time addition of the late night talk show.

ABC was far and away the most watched TV network in black households, with 23.1 million tuning in eight of its Top 25 shows. CBS was a very distant second with 7.6 million for nine of its programs. NBC claimed only 4.9 million for four shows, including newcomer, "The Voice."

The total audience for the Top 25 most popular shows in black homes was 40.1 million, according to Nielsen, or 27 percent more than the previous week.
