Afro-Brazilian.com
marks first year of targeting Black consumers with promotions
(May 24, 2012) This month, Afro-Brazilian.com, a website dedicated to
educating African Americans on the richness and diversity of the
Afro-Brazilian culture, will celebrate its first anniversary. Over the
course of the next year, the website will celebrate its one year
anniversary with quarterly online promotions with an estimated total
value of $10,000.
Year-round promotions will encourage participants to share their stories
and impressions of Brazil and its diverse culture. Visitors to Afro-Brazilian.com's
Facebook page will be able to subscribe to win the following prizes:
- Two round-trip tickets from American Airlines, Delta Airlines, or
United Airlines to Brazil from the continental United States
- Gift cards from American Express, Visa or Mastercard
- A shopping spree at Macy's, Bloomingdale's, Nordstrom or Walmart
- Dinner for two and/or four at popular Brazilian-themed restaurants
Café Brasil, Bella Vista Gourmet Pizza or PlataFormaChurrascariaRodizio
- Additional prizes will be revealed throughout the year
Since its inception, Afro-Brazilian.com has strived to bring quality
information to its readers, focusing on the influences of African
heritage in the Brazilian culture.
Afro-Brazilian.com Founder Kim L. Hunter has always believed in the
similarities between Brazil and the United States as it relates to
African heritage. "Our goal is to educate and encourage African
Americans to establish a close relationship with the Afro-Brazilian
culture and to explore their rich African influences. Many do not know
that Brazil has the largest population of African descendants outside of
Africa," said Hunter.
With contributors ranging from undergraduate and graduate students,
university professors and journalists, Afro-Brazilian.com strives to
share the most up-to-date and historical information on Afro-Brazilian
culture, tourism, and education. To date, Afro-Brazilian.com has
featured stories and videos on such topics as:
• Laws that enforce the teaching of African and Afro-Brazilian history
in Brazilian schools
• African heritage in martial arts (capoeira), religion (candomble), and
cuisine (feijoada)
• Race relations in Brazil and in the United States
"Our one-year celebration is a wonderful opportunity for Afro-Brazilian.com
to become more involved with the African American and the Afro-Brazilian
communities throughout the United States," commented the website's
Editorial Director Paulo Lima. To accomplish this interaction, Lima is
inviting contributors to share their stories and impressions on Brazil
with readers on Afro-Brazilian.com.
With two upcoming international sports events being hosted by Brazil --
the Soccer World Cup in 2014, and the Summer Olympic Games in 2016 --
all eyes have turned to the country. For the past 10 years, Brazil has
continued to grow economically, and in 2010, Brazilians elected the
first woman in the history of the country to occupy its presidency.
In an effort to provide partnership opportunities for companies
interested in reaching the Brazilian market, Afro-Brazilian.com offers
innovative advertising opportunities that include web banners, editorial
features, and contests, among others. In September 2011, in celebration
of the "Cleansing of the 46th Street" and "The Brazilian Day" in New
York City, Afro-Brazilian.com raffled two round-trip tickets from New
York to Salvador, Bahia. The event attracted over 1.5 million people to
the streets of New York, and it was an excellent opportunity for Afro-Brazilian.com
to start bridging the gap between African Americans and Afro-Brazilians
in the United States.
