RJR Media Group takes
full control of 'American Legacy' by buying Forbes stake
(May
14, 2007) RJR Media Group, LLC, announced today that it will acquire
American Legacy Magazine, a national publication devoted to
African-American history and culture. Terms of the purchase were not
disclosed. Rodney J. Reynolds (left), the president of RJR Media Group,
and the founder and publisher of American Legacy Magazine, said he expects
the acquisition to be completed in the next thirty to sixty days.
American Legacy, published quarterly, is a joint venture between RJR
Communications Inc. and American Heritage, Inc. an affiliate of Forbes,
Inc. RJR Media Group was formed to acquire the assets of American Legacy
Magazine.
“This is an exciting time for the American Legacy brand. For more than 12
years, we’ve delivered a quality publication, and provided services to the
African-American community teaching black history and culture on an
ongoing basis. We will continue American Legacy’s commitment to not only
educate and inform the African-American reader, but all Americans,” said
Reynolds.
Other
brands include: American Legacy Woman; American Legacy Healthcare
Advantage; American Legacy, Jr. and American Legacy TV.
In addition to heading up RJR Media Group, Reynolds will continue in his
position as publisher of American Legacy Magazine.
“As thrilled as we are about the new direction of American Legacy, we are
equally honored to have had the partnership and support of a publishing
giant such as Forbes. Our 12-year partnership has been extraordinary and
I’m sure we will work with each other on specific projects in the future,”
Reynolds added.
In 1994 Reynolds and Tim Forbes, currently COO of Forbes Media, LLC,
formed a joint venture to publish American Legacy Magazine. A pilot issue
was published in 1995, and the magazine launched as a quarterly in 1996
with a circulation of 500,000. In 2001, the magazine expanded its brand to
include American Legacy Television, a series of one-hour specials based on
the magazine and produced and hosted by television industry veteran Tim
Reid. American Legacy Television is a partnership between RJR
