Black Cable TV Ratings for Week of April 30 - May 6
Black viewers 42% of NBA Playoffs' total audience in first round games

(May 9, 2012) Conventional wisdom and injuries to key players haven't dampened black fans from delivering record-setting ratings for the first round of the NBA Playoffs. Black households were 42% of the total viewership for the first round of games across the cable TV schedule. Even late starting west coast games benefited from black viewers back east staying up late make the No.1 spot on the Top 25 the match-up between Dallas and Oklahoma City.

Not surprisingly, TNT was the most watched cable network, with 18.1 million viewers tuning 12 NBA games. BET finished second with 5.1 million for four shows. ESPN's two basketball games gave it 2.5 million viewers.

Nielsen recorded a total of 33.5 million black viewers for the Top 25 -- a 29% increase over the previous week.
