"American Idol" leads Fox’s hold on top 25; CBS places nine shows on the
chart (May
8, 2007) “American Idol” performed as usual in its popularity with black
TV watchers last week. The Fox show actually improved its black household
ratings by at least 200,000 homes for both the Tuesday and Wednesday
editions. For the fifth consecutive week “Idol” took first and second
place, and “House” captured third.
The winning network for the first week of May – and also the fifth
consecutive week – was CBS, which had nine of the shows on the top 25 most
popular with black households. ABC and the CW network both claimed five
shows. Fox and NBC posted three entries.
The total number of black households watching the top 25 broadcast shows,
according to Nielsen data, was 32 million, a 3.5 percent increase over the
previous week.
