Week of April 24 - 30
Cable TV is all about basketball during first round of NBA playoffs
(May
5, 2006) It’s high tide for professional basketball. The first round of
the NBA playoffs dominated the list of the top 25 cable shows in black
households. Half of the list consisted of hoops matchups shown during the
last week of April, with the Los Angeles Lakers - Phoenix Suns game on TNT
taking the number one spot.
While TNT and ESPN walked off with a combined 12 winners for the week,
other networks still found sufficient audiences for their usual favorites.
USA had four shows on the list and BET placed three. The total number of
black homes watching the top 25 shows was 17.2 million, a 13.5 percent
increase over the previous week’s total.

'Buying Power' report shows black consumers spending more on home life
As the American economy continues to move sluggishly,
African-American households are curtailing their spending in many
categories, including food, clothing and basic household items, while
investing more in home repair, home entertainment and consumer
electronics. Although they are trimming back, black consumers are still
spending more than their white counterparts on most of these products.
