Black TV Ratings for Week of April 25 - May 1
Black viewers tuned to TV news for Obama's bin Laden announcement

(May 4, 2011) On Sunday night, May 1st, when President Obama made a prime time news announcement on the death of Osama bin Laden, millions were already watching their favorite programs. As a result, there was little defection to cable news channels when the historic revelation was broadcast. Ironically, NBC drew the largest black audience for news break-in, as nearly 1.5 million  were watching presidential critic, Donald Trump on "Celebrity Apprentice."

ABC's "Dancing with the Start" took No.1 again on the Top TV 25 chart, and lead the networks charge to again being the most watched network of the week. It had 12.9 million viewers for nine of its shows. CBS followed closely with 11.8 million tuning ten of its programs on the chart. NBC was third with 5.8 million for four shows.

The total number of black viewers watching this week's Top 25 shows was 34 million according to Nielsen. That's a 15 percent jump above the previous week's total.
