Africa Channel announces executive appointments in marketing, programming

(April 30, 2014) The Africa Channel announced today a pair of executive moves in the areas of programming, marketing and digital. Narendra Reddy has joined The Africa Channel as senior vice president of programming & production, a new position. Brian Newton has been promoted to vice president of marketing & digital.

"These are two very important moves for us, as we accelerate our initiatives on a number of different fronts," said Lee Gaither, general manager and executive vice president. "Narendra Reddy possesses a long and successful track record in programming development and acquisition, much of which has transpired in the international media space.

Gaither added, "Brian Newton is a real asset who represents a new generation of media marketing exec, with an ability to create 360-degree strategies that are unique, impactful and cost-effective. He has done a sensational job overseeing our marketing and digital efforts, most notably our 'Travel. Lifestyle. Culture' branding campaign.

Reddy, a 15-year global media industry veteran, will provide strategic creative direction and executive representation for production, programming and acquisitions, including the development and production of original pilots and series domestically and in Africa.

During Reddy's career he has overseen the production of multi-platform content for web, television and film. In addition, he has spearheaded marketing and programming/acquisitions activities for television and cable companies as well as business development in the domestic and international media space. Most recently, Reddy was the general manager for DreamWorks Animation India, a division of DreamWorks Animation, SKG.

Newton joined the network a year ago as creative director, overseeing the redesign of the channel's web site, social media, app strategy and multi-platform partnerships. In his new role, he adds digital ad sales to his portfolio. Before joining The Africa Channel, Newton specialized in marketing campaigns, brand activation and targeted sales strategies for national brands such as Belvedere Vodka, Aramark, The M.A.G.I.C. Trade Convention and Pepsi.

The Africa Channel, based in Los Angeles, is available in just under 10 million homes in the U.S. on cable systems. It is a showcase for the African continent's most outstanding English-language television series, specials, documentaries, feature films, music, soaps, biographies, current business analysis, and cultural and historical programs. These travel, lifestyle and culture-oriented programs reflect the people of Africa, their incredible stories, their daily lives, their music and art, their successes, celebrations and challenges.
