'American Idol' gives coat tails, growing popularity to Fox's 'House'

(May 3, 2006) Thanks to the dominance of “American Idol,’ it seems that Fox may have now established a stronghold on not just the top two spots but first, second and third. For the second week in a row “House” has joined “Idol” in capturing the top of the chart. The drama held on to enough of Tuesday’s “Idol” audience lead-in to take second place with black households in prime time for the last week of April. Not a bad position to be in as the networks head into the May sweeps period.

UPN, CBS and Fox each claimed three winners for the week, while the return of “Grey’s Anatomy” to the list gave ABC a presence. The total number of black homes
watching the top ten was 18.35 million.

Although they are trimming back, black consumers are still spending more than their white counterparts on most of these products.
