Black Cable TV Ratings for Week of April 18 - 24
NBA playoff basketball draws record viewing by black households to cable TV

(April 28, 2011) Basketball's popularity among black households is not a surprise. But the audience for this year's first round has jumped well ahead of industry expectations. In fact, the audience for the Top 25 cable shows was 25 percent higher than the audience for the top TV programs for the same week.

TNT posted a record-setting audience of 18.2 million black viewers for 11 game-related programs, making it easily the most watched cable network of the week. ESPN followed with its own NBA line-up of 6.2 million viewers for four games. TBS's Tyler Perry comedies attracted 5.8 million across five programs.

The total number of black viewers watching the Top 25 cable shows, as cited by Nielsen, was 37 million, or 16 percent above the previous week's total.
